How to make a Reiner Braun cosplay — step by step
Makeup and wig styling, sewing the garments, prop and armor fabrication, paint and weathering, then wear-day prep — written for this build.
Open the Reiner Braun tutorial →Reiner is two builds in one: the Survey Corps scout and the Marleyan Warrior. Both live or die on the same three things — a heavy, structured jacket, a harness that fits a broad silhouette, and a jaw-forward face. This section covers his makeup, the props worth building, printable hardware, and where each piece is worth buying rather than making.
REINER_BRAUN_MAKEUP
Reiner is a structure-and-texture face, not a colour one. The work is in squaring the jaw, hardening the brow, and adding the tired, weather-beaten skin of a soldier who has not slept in four years.
01Warm, matte base
Reiner reads slightly sun-worn. Use a base a half-shade warmer than your own, keep it matte, and skip anything dewy — shine reads soft, and Reiner should not read soft.
02Square the jaw
Contour straight down from the ear to a hard corner at the jaw angle, then stop. Do not curve it into the chin. Highlight the chin square itself so the jawline reads wide and flat from the front.
03Heavy straight brows
Block your natural arch with glue and redraw a thick, low, almost rectangular brow in a warm dark blonde. Extend the inner ends slightly toward each other for his permanent worried tension.
04Tired eyes
Blend a cool taupe into the crease and a soft grey-brown under the lower lash line, then add a faint second line under that for the hollow, exhausted look. No liner wing, no shimmer.
05Field weathering
Stipple grey-brown cream on the temple, the jaw, and one cheek, then powder it back to dust. For the Warrior armband version keep the face cleaner and add a hint of stubble with a stipple sponge.

DIY_PROP_BUILDS
Reiner's prop list is standard Survey Corps issue scaled up to a larger frame, plus the Warrior armband for the Marley variant. The harness is the only piece that genuinely needs custom fitting.
ODM harness (broad fit)
IntermediateFit the harness on your own body rather than to a pattern — commercial sets are cut for slim frames and gap badly across a broad chest. Add elastic on the thigh loops so it stays tight when you move.
- ·25mm brown webbing
- ·Tri-glides and side-release buckles
- ·Elastic sections
- ·Rivets
Warrior armband
BeginnerA simple band with the Marleyan star. Cut the star from heat-transfer vinyl for crisp edges; painted stars bleed unless you seal the weave first. Snaps let you swap variants at the con.
- ·White cotton twill
- ·Red fabric paint or vinyl
- ·Snap fasteners
Blade grips
BeginnerStandard issue. Weather the contact points harder than the rest — Reiner is shown with well-used gear in every arc.
- ·PVC or printed grips
- ·EVA foam housing
- ·Matte black + gunmetal paint
Green Survey Corps cloak
BeginnerCut it long — on a taller build a standard-length cloak reads like a cape. Overdye bright green toward olive-grey so it holds up under convention lighting.
- ·3m olive twill
- ·Iron-on or embroidered emblem
3D_PRINTING_FILES
Survey Corps ODM files are shared across the whole cast, so anything modelled for Eren, Levi, or Mikasa fits Reiner. The only Reiner-specific print worth doing is the Armoured Titan plating for a display or partial-armour build.
- Buckle and tri-glide hardware— PETG only — these carry real strap load on a larger frame.
- Blade grip shells— Clamshell over a PVC core; sand the seam before painting.
- Gear box side plates— Print flat and mount to an EVA foam box to keep the weight sane.
- Armoured Titan plate set— Scale to your own chest measurement before slicing; print in sections and strap to a foam base.
- Marleyan star emblem— Two-colour flat print for a badge or display piece.
Material
PLA for cosmetic shells, PETG for buckles and load-bearing hardware
Layer height
0.2mm standard, 0.12mm on small hardware
Walls / infill
4 walls, 15% gyroid
Finishing
Filler primer, wet sand, matte black, dry-brush gunmetal, weathering powder
SOURCING_GUIDE
Buying guide: the Survey Corps set is easy to find and hard to find in the right size, so sizing is the whole decision for Reiner. The Warrior uniform is rarer and usually worth commissioning. Live retailer links are in the tabs above.
| Piece | Buy or build | What to watch for |
|---|
| Survey Corps uniform set | Cosplay retailers and full-set sellers | Size up: most sets run at least one size small in the shoulders and chest. Check the jacket has a real collar structure and an embroidered patch. |
| Marleyan Warrior uniform | Specialist sellers or a commissioner | Far less stocked than the scout set. Check the collar shape and armband placement against reference before ordering. |
| Wig | Dedicated wig vendors | Short warm dark-blonde, not yellow. Buy slightly long and trim the sides back yourself for the tapered shape. |
| Harness | DIY build or a commissioner | Off-the-shelf harnesses are the single most common Reiner problem — they gap across the chest. Budget for a custom fit. |
| Boots | Surplus or secondhand | Brown knee-high with a low heel and a wide calf. Measure your calf before ordering online. |
| Blades and gear | 3D print files or prop sellers | Check your convention's prop length rules before committing to full blades. |
BUILD_FAQ
QHow do you do Reiner Braun cosplay makeup?
Square the jaw with a straight contour that stops hard at the jaw angle, block and redraw a thick low brow in warm dark blonde, add taupe and grey-brown shadow under the eye for the exhausted look, keep everything matte, and finish with a light dust-toned grime pass.
QShould I cosplay Reiner as a Survey Corps scout or a Marleyan Warrior?
The Survey Corps version is cheaper and far easier to source because the set is shared with the whole cast. The Warrior uniform is more distinctive and instantly recognisable, but it is rarely stocked and usually needs a commissioner, so budget more time and money for it.
QWhat size should I order for a Reiner Braun costume?
Size up. Reiner is drawn broad, and cosplay sets are cut slim through the shoulders and chest, so most buyers need at least one size larger than the chart suggests. Compare your chest and shoulder measurements against the listing chart rather than trusting S/M/L labels.
QAre there 3D print files for Reiner's gear?
Yes. ODM gear files are shared across the Attack on Titan cast, so blade grips, buckles, anchor hooks, and gear box plates all fit Reiner. Print load-bearing buckles in PETG. Armoured Titan plate sets exist separately for partial-armour builds.
QWhere can I buy a Reiner Braun costume?
Major cosplay retailers stock the Survey Corps uniform, and DexKosu aggregates the live listings per retailer on this page with community reviews flagging fit and fabric issues. Buy the harness or have it made rather than relying on the one included in a set.
